Truffles in Istria - a devilishly good treat

We accuse the truffles of a lot of things - for example, being an aphrodisiac, demonic tubers, medicine... but one thing is sure, the truffles are one of the most expensive foods in the world, especially the white truffle.
One of the biggest truffles was found by Giancarlo Zigante in Buje in 1999 in the western Croatian region of Istria.
Thanks to its intense flavor, just a couple of grams of this valuable mushroom is enough to feel its intensity.
 There is a reason why truffles are so expensive. It takes a lot of time and patience to find the truffles.
Istria is waiting for its guests to try truffles. There is also the possibility of a demonstrating truffle search with specially trained dogs, as well as cooking schools.

Events:

In the autumn, the days of wine (muškat) and truffles take place in Momjan and Buje in Istria. During those days, local restaurants and winemakers offer menus based on white truffles combined with the variety of delicious and aromatic wines. A great treat for all wine enthusiasts and gourmets. 

In addition to that, each weekend in September until October are the days of Zigante Truffles. Traditional manifestation in Livada, the heart of the Motovun forest, where you also can try truffles and excellent wines and other Croatian specialties such as cheese or prosciutto, olive oil... you can also go to a cooking-show and see how our best chefs create truffle delicacies.
